Episode 21: Byron Lars

A fashion Moment with Kirsten Holtz Naim Podcast Guest Designer Byron Lars

Byron Lars is a pioneer in fashion design. In 1991 he began designing under his own label and eventually worked his way up to selling at some of the largest retail stores in the United States. From Bergdorf to Bloomingdales to Saks Fifth Avenue, Lars has taken his design visions from his early roots in the bay area to the world. Known for being a triple threat as a designer, sketcher, and technician behind every signature design, Lars doesn’t just curate the vision, but makes it come to life. Lars is notably recognized for designing custom clothes on Barbie dolls since 1997, designing custom looks for First Lady Michelle Obama, and launching his debut In Earnest collection amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. His In Earnest collection, named after his late father, reflects the African culture as represented in Lars’ Harlem neighborhood. After over three decades in the industry, Lars’ wisdom and grit to curate his signature looks, inspires all of us fashion lovers to remember and believe–that with a vision and hard work–  anything is possible.
